We were surprised when we met with these clients and heard their vision for their baby boutique. The list of things they didn't want sounded like every baby store we had ever seen... which of course was the point. The goal was a store that speaks in calming tones in the world of retail noise. The use of a darker palette and restrained lighting helps put the emphasis on the products for sale rather than the space.
The primary display system is made from reclaimed timbers. The floors are polished concrete – a chemical free process that requires no chemicals to maintain. The steel utilized for shelving and brackets has a minimum of 60% recycled content. The majority of the lighting package was also recycled.
A conversation with the clients about our collective childhood memories of time spent in stores with our parents when we were kids led to the inclusion of a simple "play house" within the store.
