A Cake shop for Kittie’s
German Village in Columbus, Ohio
Kitties Cakes was a business before it was a brick and mortar store – but when they selected a storefront they picked a great one in Columbus’s historic German Village neighborhood. Original hardwood floors, pressed tin ceiling and a simple, beautiful original windows.
Our stated goal - tread lightly. Adding what they needed for baking and retail while letting the bones of the space speak for themselves. Fundamentally the buildout is a large open kitchen. A large island with suspended storage above defines the work area and accommodates their specific workflow.
Beyond the kitchen a small “living space” accommodates office functions and also meetings with prospective clients.
Views to the outside and into the kitchen belie the relatively small size of the space allotted for customers. The net effect is one of an intimate and active space in the city. A combination of traditional and modern design and details. And really good coffee and baked goods.
